Irene Garcia-Benavides M.Ed., CCC-SLP

Irene Garcia-Benavides M.Ed., CCC-SLP, is a board-certified Speech Language Pathologist with over ten years of clinical experience. Ms. Garcia-Benavides received her Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from San Marcos National University and her Masters of Education from the Peruvian Language and Hearing Center (Catholic University) in Lima, Peru. She completed her coursework for the Certificate of Clinical Competence at Texas A & M Kingsville.

Mrs. Garcia-Benavides has defended her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees theses researching the linguistic and educational situation of the hearing impaired population in her country. She volunteers in research projects in Peru.

Mrs. Garcia-Benavides has been a Sign Language Interpreter in her country for several years. She is in the process of getting certified as an ASL interpreter in the U.S as well as an Auditory Verbal Therapist. As hearing impaired population is very diverse, she wants to be able to communicate with everyone.

Her first years of clinical experience were obtained in Peru and then moved to the U.S. where she has worked as a Speech Pathologist between Brownsville and San Antonio, Texas for the last nine years.

Mrs. García-Benavides resides in San Antonio with her husband Pedro and her daughter Sophia. They are members of their church and together they have been involved with various church activities. She is also an independent consultant in her country where she serves every time she goes visit her country. Mrs. Garcia-Benavides agrees with the Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo, who has once said: There is, brothers and sisters, so much to do”.
