What A Night!
The whole room felt like family all joined together for a purpose of shining light on a community that is often kept in the dark. The whole room waited for the moment to break glow sticks to showcase that God sees beauty shining through deaf children when the world mislabels as “broken.” Where the rest of the world doesn’t try to understand our little clients with hearing loss, this audience at the Witte pressed in deep to understand the struggles of having hearing loss without language, resources or support, and how Aid the Silent has filled in so many missing gaps to help these children. The night was a great success as we raised incredible awareness about the young deaf community and their needs for equal access to education, resources and ministry. We are thankful to our donors and supporters who made this event a success to raise the necessary funds to continue our mission of advocating for and in aiding children to receive all the support they need to find personal success in life. The event had over 40 amazing volunteers, 11 live auction items and 66 silent auction items from vendors and companies, which made the night even more memorable.
Aid the Silent celebrated 5 years of servicing deaf children at the Witte Museum February 28th 2020. It was a special night that not only highlighted the needs among the deaf young population but also is honoring military members and veterans as hearing loss is the #1 war wound returning home. Our main speaker was SSG (Ret.) Shilo Harris and we took a moment within this night to honor our men and women in service. The master of ceremony was Ursula Pari, Reporter KSAT12 and host/speaker was Emma Faye Rudkin. The event was ASL interpreted and live captioned to showcase to businesses sponsoring and attending how to create equal access for deaf members of our society and to inspire more hires for people who are deaf or have a disability.
The night honored major movers and shakers within the San Antonio community. Aid the Silent honored Gordan Hartman from Morgan’s Wonderland as Difference Maker of the Year; Audicles Hearing Services as Industry Leaders of the year; Ashley Garcia of Children’s Hospital Santa Rosa as Advocate of the Year. Among these honorees is local deaf artist, Jacob Garcia, who is awarded as Inspirational Role Model of the Year.
The night was sold out and every seat was counted for! The ceiling was covered in cascading pink and orange balloons from Liz’s Beautiful Events and fresh florals on every table and covering the front of the stage from Blume Haus Fine Flowers. The 3rd Annual Aid the Silent Gala won “Winter Events to Remember” from Biz Bash.
Thank you for being a part of a night to forever remember! Thank you for supporting Aid the Silent to bridge the deaf and hearing world together in unity.
